Answer:

1. On October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union became the country that officially started the so-called space race by launching the Sputnik 1, the first Earth satellite in history.

2. A month after the USSR sent Sputnik 1 into space, they sent Sputnik 2, which was the first spacecraft to carry an animal (a dog named Laika) and so the country made history again by becoming the first to successfully send a living organism into orbit.

3.However, something that many people don’t know about this dog is that despite the Soviets initially claiming that Laika had survived in orbit for a week, decades later official Russian sources revealed that Laika lived only a few hours before dying from overheating.

Why did the United States continue to support South Vietnamese leader Ngo Dinh Diem’s corrupt and weak regime? a. Presidents Ken
galben [10]

Answer:

A. President Kennedy and Johnson feared losing Vietnam to communism is the correct answer.

Explanation:

They supported South Vietnam under the policy of containment. They supported the corrupt government because they wanted to defeat the communist north and Vietcong. The US government considered it to be like domino, if southern Vietnam fell to communists, it would set of a chain reaction which will bring other countries under the influence of communism. Decolonization was another factor for supporting South Vietnam ,as new countries were gaining their independence, US, china and Russia considered them to be their potential allies and whether they were eligible for support or not depended on their government. Since South Vietnam was a non communist state it was obvious that US would support it.
