Yes, because they remind us of our past. If we take them down, its as if were trying to forget or erase our history. If we are not educated on history, then we are doomed to repeat It. Germany rebuilt some of its concentration camps as a reminder for their history and that it was a bad thing.

The Reconstruction Period  which immediately fallowed American Civil War aimed at rebuilding infrastructure and <u>restoring the membership of southern states ( former confederate states ) in the Union</u>.The Reconstruction officially ended in 1877 when president Rutherford B. Hayes withdrew federal troops from the south. So in this way  civilian rule returned to the former confederate states in 1877.
