Mario sets up an experiment to determine the source of the oxygen gas produced by photosynthesis. To determine this, he uses an

isotope of oxygen called O-18. He labels the O-18 oxygen so he can follow its path through photosynthesis. Plant A is given carbon dioxide that contains the O-18 isotope. Plant B is given water that contains the O-18 isotope. When he examines the oxygen from both plants, only plant B produced O-18 oxygen. What conclusion should he draw about the source of oxygen produced through photosynthesis?

He labels the O-18 oxygen so he can follow its path through photosynthesis. Plant A is given carbon dioxide that contains the O-18 isotope. Plant B is given water that contains the O-18 isotope. When he examines the oxygen from both plants, only plant B produced O-18 oxygen. This indicates that the source of oxygen is water. The photosynthesis involves the transfer of electrons between the photosystem I and II. The water gets split into oxygen, hydrogen ions and electrons in the photosystem I. The electrons move to the photosystem II where the carbon fixation into sugars takes place. The plant A will have O-18 isotope in its synthesised sugar molecule, which gets stored inside it.

the allele for yellow peas is dominant to the allele for green peas. how would you represent the alleles of a plant that is hete
goldfiish [28.3K]

Answer: The alleles of a plant that is heterozygous for seed color can be represented as Y for dominant allele for yellow seed and y for recessive allele for green seed.

Explanation: A plant that is heterozygous for seed colour has one dominant allele and one recessive allele for seed colour. If Y represents the dominant allele for yellow seed colour and y represents the recessive allele for green seed colour, therefore the plant has a genotype of Yy. A dominant allele is one that has the ability to mask the effect of a recessive allele while a recessive allele is one whose effect is masked by a dominant allele. Dominant alleles are denoted with upper cases while recessive alleles are denoted with lower cases. A plant that is heterozygous for seed colour with genotype Yy will manifest outwardly as Yellow seed colour due to the presence of the dominant allele Y.

The answer is B) temporal isolation.

Temporal isolation is a type of reproductive isolation, which could be prezygotic or postzygotic. Temporal isolation is prezygotic reproductive isolation since it occurs before fertilization and zygote production. Temporal isolation is result of temporal differences in breeding. In this example, the breeding season of Rana aurora lasts from January to March while the breeding season of Rana boylii lasts from April to July. So, these two breeding seasons do not coincide and these species could not mate.
