9. Peyton is collecting data on the lunch habits of students at Hyattsville Middle School. In one class, 14 students bring lunch

from home, and 20 buy a school lunch. Hyattsville Middle School has 1700 students. From the data collected, how many students would Peyton predict would buy a school lunch?*

Answer: Around 1000 students would buy a schoo lunch.

Step-by-step explanation:

We know that in one class, 14 students bring lunch from home, and 20 buy lunch in the school. This will be our sample.

In total we have 20 + 14 = 34 students, this will be our 100%.

The percentage of students that bring lunch from home can be estimated as the quotient between the number of students that bring lunch from home and the total number of students, times 100%.

p1 = (14/34)*100% = 41.18%

And the percentage of students that buy lunch at school can be computed in the same way:

p2= (20/34)*100% = 58.82%

Then, out of the 1700 students in middle school, we can estimate that around 58.82% of them will buy lunch in the school.

Then the exact number will be:

N = (58.82%/100%)*1700 = 1000

Around 1000 students would buy a schoo lunch.

If the angle is preserved, which describes the effect of moving the plane closer to the cone's vertex? Check all that apply.
Sholpan [36]

Let's go though the choices.

Major axis will get shorter.  TRUE, CHECK ME

As the plane moves closer to the vertex the ellipse stays the same shape but shrinks.

Ellipse will become a circle.  FALSE

As long as the plane is tilted, the ellipse can't be a circle.

Ellipse will degenerate to a point.  TRUE, CHECK ME

Eventually the plane gets to the vertex, at which point (ha!) we have a single point.

Nappes?  Is that a word?   FALSE

The plane needs a steeper angle, steeper than the generators, before it can pass through both halves.

The generators are the lines through the vertex that form the cone.  The plane isn't steep enough to hold any of them. FALSE

Point Q is the center of dilation. Line segment L M is dilated to created line segment L prime M prime. The length of L Q is 4 a
koban [17]

Answer:

The length of segment QM' = 6

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Q is the center of dilation

Pre-image (original image) = segment LM

New image = segment L'M'

The length of LQ = 4

The length of QM = 3

The length of LL' = 4

The original image was dilated with scale factor = 2

QM' = ?

To determine segment QM', first we would draw the diagram obtained from the given information.

Find attached the diagram

When a figure is dilated, we would have similar shape in thus cars similar triangles.

Segment L'M' = scale factor × length of LM

Let LM = x

L'M' = 2x

Using similar triangles theorem, ratio of their corresponding sides are equal.

QM/LM = QM'/L'M'

3/x = QM'/2x

6x = QM' × x

Q'M' = 6

The length of segment QM' = 6

How many 1/8 teaspoons are equal to 4 3/4 teaspoons?
Vinvika [58]

1. Convert fraction into same decimal.

To find this answer, we want to first convert the fraction so that the denominators are the same:

3/4 = ?/8

Divide the original denominator by the needed-to-be denominator.

8 / 4 = 2

Do reversal calculations

4 x 2 = 8

So, now that we know to multiply the original denominator by 2 to get the new denominator, multiple the numeriator by the same.

3           6

_  x 2 = _

4           8

So now, the new equation is:

How many 1/8 teaspoons are equal to 4 6/8 teaspoons.

(The reason why you must convert is because then you can simply say that the fraction is 6 1/8's, which means you just have to worry about the whole numbers.

2. Convert the whole numbers into a fraction to make it easier.

In order to convert whole numbers into fractions, first find the denominator your using. Which in this case, it is 8.

?/8

Now remember, for it to be a whole number, the numeriator and denominator MUST be the same.

8/8 = 1

Now remember, there are four 1's. Multiply the numeriator by 4, but keep the denominator the same or else the equation is ruined.

32/8 = 4

3. Add all your information together.

DO NOT forget to add the information you collected during the equation, or else you will get a wrong answer. Add the equation's final answer to the whole numbers final answer.

32 / 8 + 6 / 8 = ?

32 / 8 + 6 / 8 = 38 / 8

Well now, remember something. It is asking us, how many 1/8's were in the equation 4 3/4. We have transformed 4 3/4 into a whole equation, 38/8.

Now, all you need to do is look at the numeriator.

What number do you see?

You see 38.

The denominator is the correct denominator that you need. So, the number of the numeriator is the answer to the equation.

So, how many 1/8 are in 38/8?

38!
