Can a linear equation and a linear inequality be solved in the same way? Explain why. What makes them different?

There are some extra mathematical rules on an inequality, for example, when you multiply or divide both sides by a negative number the direction of the inequality must be switched. > to < or < to >, etc. Another difference is that in a linear equation you get a number as the result, in an inequality, you get an interval of numbers.
