Un decimal finito es aquel que solo tiene un número determinado de decimales y no se extiende al infinito.

Un decimal infinito periódico, es aquel cuya cifra decimal se repite constantemente hasta el infinito, esto puede ser un decimal, dos, etc.

Un decimal semi infinito periódico es aquel donde una parte de los decimales se mantiene sin repetir, y la otra parte se repite hasta el infinito.

Una vez que hayas identificado el tipo de decimal, solo debes aplicar alguna de los 3 casos siguientes:

1. PAra un decimal finito se convierte la cifra decimal en un numero entero multiplicando por 10, 100, 1000 depende del número de decimales que tenga, y se divide entre 10, 100, 1000.... segun el número de decimales y se simplifica la fracción si es posible.

2. Para un infinito periódico se anota el número y se le resta él o los números que están antes del período. Se coloca como denominador un 9 por cada número que está en el período (si hay un número bajo la rayita se coloca un 9, si hay dos números bajo el período se coloca 99, etc.). Si se puede simplificar, se simplifica.

3. El numerador de la fracción se obtiene, restando al número la parte entera y el anteperíodo, o sea, todo lo que está antes de la “rayita”.  El denominador de la fracción se obtiene colocando tantos 9 como cifras tenga el período y tantos 0 como cifras tenga el anteperíodo. Como siempre, el resultado se expresa como fracción irreductible (no se puede simplificar más) o como número mixto.

Dicho esta parte teórica, pasemos a la práctica y convirtamos los decimales a fracción:

1. 8,485: decimal finito, con 3 decimales, lo anotamos sin la coma, y entonces colocas como denominador el 1000, porque fueron 3 decimales, 3 ceros ----------> 8485/1000 = 1697/200   (se simplificó por 5)

2.  125,65: decimal finito -----> 12565/100 = 2513/20

3. 54,987987: infinito periódico, aplicamos los pasos de arriba:

54,987987 = 54987 - 54 / 999 = 54933 / 999

4. 266.8484..: infinito periódico

266,8484.... = 26684 - 266 / 99 = 26418 / 99

5. 4,78999.: Infinito semiperiódico

4,78999 = 4789 - 478 / 900 = 4311 / 900

6. 942,74111: infinito semiperiódico

942,74111 = 942741 - 94274 / 900 = 848467 / 900
