People from the rural areas decided to move to larger cities such as New York City or Chicago because there they could find jobs operating the new machines in the factories. Those jobs were low-paid jobs under unhealthy and risky conditions and workers had to work for long hours.

And the factors that contributed most to the rapid industrialization and urbanization of the United States were "Investment Capital, New Means of Transport, Large Labor Force."
