To solve the given linear equation, 3x + 5 = 2x + 8, for the variable x where the unknown quantity x is in both sides of the equation, it is acceptable to isolate and solve for x in either side of the equation, left or right, while collecting all of the known quantities on the opposite side, but since the left side is usually used and traditionally used to isolate and solve for the unknown quantity, then we will begin our solution by subtracting 2x from both sides of the equation in order to completely remove the x-terms from the right side and, at the same time, begin isolating the variable x on the left side, as follows:
3x + 5 = 2x + 8 (Given)

3x - 2x + 5 = 2x - 2x + 8

Now, collecting like-terms on the left and right sides, we get:
1x + 5 = 0 + 8

x + 5 = 0 + 8

x + 5 = 8

Now, subtract 5 from both sides of the equation in order to isolate x on the left side, thus finally solving the equation for x as follows:
x + 5 - 5 = 8 - 5

x + 0 = 3

x = 3

CHECK (ALWAYS PERFORM THIS STEP, AND DO SO BACK IN THE ORIGINAL, GIVEN EQUATION!):
3x + 5 = 2x + 8
3(3) + 5 = 2(3) + 8
9 + 5 = 6 + 8
14 = 14

Therefore, x = 3 is indeed the solution to the given equation.

REMEMBER: For solving equations, WHATEVER YOU DO TO ONE SIDE OF THE EQUATION, YOU MUST DO TO THE OTHER SIDE.

PLS HELP I'LL MARK BRAINLIEST
Elis [28]

Answer:

Domain: (-∞, -5) ∪ (-1, ∞)

Step-by-step explanation:

Note:

For f(x) > 0: See the points of x for which the graph of f(x) lies above the x-axis.

For f(x) < 0: See the points of x for which the graph of f(x) lies below the x-axis.

We need to find the domain of f(x) for which f(x) < 0

From the graph, we can tell:

f(x) < 0 on (-∞, -5) ∪ (-1, ∞)

Therefore: The domain on which the given graph f(x) is negative, is (-∞, -5) ∪ (-1, ∞)
