As the given values are

<span>ΔHf° = –423 kJ/mol
</span>ΔHsub = 119 kJ/mol
IE = 469 kJ/mol
ΔHEA = –301 kJ/mol
BE = 161 kJ/mol

The lattice energy of the compound can be determined by applying formula

U = <span>ΔHf° - </span>ΔHsub - BE - IE - ΔHEA
by putting values
U = -423 - 119 - 161 - 469 - (-301)
solving further
U = -871 kJ/mol

so the lattice energy is 871 kJ/mol
hope it helps

The lattice energy of MX is \boxed{ - {\text{871 kJ/mol}}}.

Further explanation:

Lattice energy:

It is defined as the energy released when an ionic compound is formed from its constituent ions or when the compound gets dissociated into its gaseous ions. It is denoted as \Delta {H_{{\text{lattice}}}}.

Born Haber cycle:

The reaction energies are evaluated by this cycle. It is used to calculate the lattice energy that is difficult to measure directly. The various steps involved in the Born Haber cycle of an ionic compound, MX are as follows:

1. Sublimation of solid metal (M) to the gaseous state. The reaction occurs as follows:

 {\text{M}}\left( s \right)\xrightarrow{{\Delta {H_{{\text{sublimation}}}}}}{\text{M}}\left( g \right)

2. Bond breakage of diatomic halogen molecule \left( {{{\text{X}}_{\text{2}}}} \right). The reaction occurs as follows:

\frac{1}{2}{{\text{X}}_2}\left( g \right)\xrightarrow{{{\text{BE}}}}{\text{X}}\left( g \right)

3. Ionization of metal into positive ions. The reaction occurs as follows:

{\text{M}}\left( {\text{g}} \right)\xrightarrow{{{\text{IE}}}}{{\text{M}}^{\text{ + }}}\left( {\text{g}} \right)

4. Electron affinity of halogen atom to form negative ions. The reaction occurs as follows:

{\text{X}}\left( g \right)\xrightarrow{{{\text{EA}}}}{{\text{X}}^ - }\left( g \right)

5. Formation of an ionic compound, MX. The reaction occurs as follows:

{{\text{M}}^{\text{ + }}}\left( {\text{g}} \right) + {{\text{X}}^ - }\left( {\text{g}} \right)\xrightarrow{{\Delta {H^0}_{{\text{formation}}}}}{\text{MX}}\left( s \right)

The formula to calculate the enthalpy of formation of MX is as follows:

\Delta H_{{\text{formation}}}^0 = \Delta {H_{{\text{sublimation}}}} + {\text{IE}} + {\text{BE}} + {\text{EA}} + \Delta {H_{{\text{lattice}}}}   ......(1)

Rearrange equation (1) to calculate \Delta {H_{{\text{lattice}}}}.

\Delta {H_{{\text{lattice}}}} = \Delta H_{{\text{formation}}}^0 - \Delta {H_{{\text{sublimation}}}} - {\text{IE}} - {\text{BE}} - {\text{EA}}    ......(2)

The value of \Delta H_{{\text{formation}}}^0 is -423 kJ/mol.

The value of \Delta {H_{{\text{sublimation}}}} is 119 kJ/mol.

The value of IE is 469 kJ/mol.

The value of BE is 161 kJ/mol.

The value of EA is -301 kJ/mol.

Substitute these values in equation (2).

\begin{aligned}\Delta {H_{{\text{lattice}}}}&= \left( { - 42{\text{3 kJ/mol}}} \right) - \left( {119{\text{ kJ/mol}}} \right) - \left( {469{\text{ kJ/mol}}} \right) - \left( {{\text{161 kJ/mol}}} \right) - \left( {-301{\text{kJ/mol}}}\right)\\&=871{\text{kJ/mol}}\\\end{aligned}

(4/9)-¹ ?????????? what is it? <br> -9/4<br> -4/9<br> 9/4
Elis [28]
Im not sure on the syntax here, but i assume the question is (4/9)^-1

(4/9)^-1
= (4^-1)/(9^-1)

A negative power is an inverse of the positive power
i.e. x^-2 = 1/x^2
This is because if we have say x^3/x^5 we simplify it by cancelling x^3 which gives 1/x^2.
Another way to think of it is to subtract the power of the bottom x from the power of the top x: 3-5 = -2 so x^3/x^5 = x^-2.
I hope this explains how negitive powers are the inverse of the positive power.

So....
(4^-1)/(9^-1)
= 9/4
Because the inverse of 4 is 1/4 and the inverse of 1/9 is 9

How do you graph 193 + y is greater than or equal to 201
Travka [436]

Answer:

The correct answer is y ≥ 8

Step-by-step explanation:

In order to graph this, we must first solve the equation for y.

193 + y ≥ 201

y ≥ 8

Now that we have the solved version, we can graph on a number line. Draw a closed circle on the point 8 and then draw an arrow to the right to show that it is greater.

Sam asks five of his friends in his accelerated ELA class.
professor190 [17]

Answer:

1) Sam only interviewed five people out of his entire ELA class, so he doesn't have a very wide demographic to study

2) All of these people were Sam's friends, so they might all have similar interests or only enjoy certain things, and that doesn't allow for a wide range of data collection

Four circles are inscribed in squares. Write a function f in terms of the radius r that represents the area of the shaded region
laila [671]

Answer:

The answer is = 3.432r²

Step-by-step explanation:

The pictorial representation of the question is given below

                       (The first uploaded image)

Step 1: State the parameters and the required formula

  Let L denote the length of the square

 Let B denote the breath of the Square

 Let D denote the diameter of the circle = 2r&#10;

Let r denote the radius of the circle = D÷2

    Area of a square = L × B = L × L = L²    (Note for a square L = B)

    Area of circle = πr²

Step 2: Consider the first inscription of circle inside the square

    From the diagram we see that the diameter of the circle is equal to the length and breadth of the square.

   Hence the area of the square in terms of radius is

          Area of square = D * D&#10;

                                     = 2r * 2r

                                    = 4r²

Now to obtain the area of the shaded region for the first inscription of circle we subtract the area of the square from the area of the circle

          = 4r² - πr²          Note: π =3.142

              Therefore we have Area of shaded region for first inscription of circle, S = 0.858r²

Step 3: Now we consider the area of the shaded region for the inscription of  four circles into squares, as shown on the diagram (uploaded image).

        Since the area of the shaded region for the first inscription is 0.858r² then for the four inscription of the circles into squares,

The area will be 4 multiplied by area of the shaded region for the first circle inscribed to a square

i.e. 4 × 0.858r² = 3.432r²

Therefore the area of the shaded region is given as 3.432r²
