What would happen to a population if all females reproduce through parthenogenesis alone?

Biology
1 answer:
sweet [91]3 years ago
7 0

Answer:

All the offspring from parthenogenesis are female. So if the female stick insects carry on reproducing alone, the males could be wiped out. ... This may help explain why parthenogenesis remains rare, even in species that are capable of it. In such species, "males typically force females to mate".

Hope this helps

How do comets compare in age with the solar system?
Mashcka [7]

Answer:

The word ‘comet’ comes from the Greek komhth comètè (long-haired), from which we also get the word ‘comb’. Loosely, a comet appears as a hairy star. For millennia comets have been associated with disasters. Two examples are the apparitions of Halley’s Comet during the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. Comets really do appear mysterious. While the stars, the Sun, the Moon, and the five naked eye planets all follow regular and predictable motions, comets appear suddenly, quickly move in an erratic fashion, and then abruptly disappear, apparently never to be seen again.

Comets contain dust, ice, carbon dioxide, ammonia, methane and more. Astronomers think comets are leftovers from the material that initially formed the solar system about 4.6 billion years ago.
