Odyssey decides to control his actions with the Polyphemus, despite the appeals made by his crew to depart from the island quickly. As a result due to his pride and arrogance, his men have to suffer. Such pride leads him to his downfall as hubris was a sin as believed by the Greek. They believed that the humans were below them in a hierarchy and showing hubris was an act of equalizing themselves with the god.
