An increase in the number of invasive species leads to a decrease in the diversity index. This species can alter the food web within an ecosystem by eliminating the local food sources leaving no food for the faunas. If plant diversity declines, the habitat would definitely lose its balance. The ecosystem would lose its balance. Plants are considered producers and are always the beginning of the food chain. Without plants, animals that consume plants will definitely decline it number; thus, also the consumers on top of the chain.
