What term describes the rising and sinking of the lithosphere as material is added or removed?
Margaret [11]
<span>Composition. (We use the crust-mantle-core terminology to describe differences in chemical composition in Earth's interior. We use the lithosphere- asthenosphere terminology to describe differences the physical state and behavior. Note that the boundaries between layers with different compositions do not occur at the same depths as the boundaries between layers with different physical properties. For example, there is a change in composition when passing from crust into mantle. But there is no change in physical state or behavior at this boundary- the uppermost part of the mantle behaves in the same way that the crust does because it is still far enough below its melting temperature to be a rigid, brittle solid. The transition to a softer, more pliable solid occurs further down within the mantle and this change in behavior occurs with no change in composition.)</span>

Density is mass per unit of volume. Which pair of lab instruments would a student use to measure the density of seawater?
9966 [12]
<h3>Answer:  C. a balance and a beaker</h3>

Explanation:

A balance would be used to measure the weight, which in turn effectively measures the mass (more or less). Imagine that we have a brick that we know is 1 pound. If we have an object that needs 5 bricks on one side to balance it out, then we know the object is 5 pounds.

The beaker is used to measure the volume. It's basically a measuring cup that you would find in the kitchen.

To get the density, you divide the mass over volume.

For example, if you have a material that has a mass of 100 grams and it's volume is 20 cm^3, then its density is 100/20 = 5 grams per cm^3.

What steps are involved in creating a hydroelectric power plant
olga_2 [115]
In order to create a hydroelectric power plant, you need water, hence the prefix hydro-. Most times, people use dams to block the water, which in a way stores it. When you need to produce electricity, you release some of the water which flows through a turbine making it spin, which then activates a generator to produce electricity.

A gene mutation is a change in the sequence of nucleotides that occurs during cell replication (mitosis and meiosis)within a sin
Shalnov [3]

True

Changes in the transcription of mRNA or the translation of a polypeptide are not considered to be mutations because they are not permanent changes to the cell.

Explanation:

The half-life of mRNA and proteins is short. mRNA has an average of 10 hours of life span while proteins have an average of  several days. Therefore mutation in these biomolecules will only persist as long as this mutated mRNA of protein exists. After its life-span, the molecule is degraded and replaced by a non-mutated mRNA or proteins. This is because the piece of DNA that codes for the mRNA and subsequent protein is not mutated. A mutation on DNA is the permanent kind of mutations because DNA is a highly stable molecule that stores information about the cell.
