In their early teens, Juan, Cole and Hardy live in areas where both conventional and delinquent activities are limited and adult

role models are absent. Applying differential opportunity theory, Juan, Cole and Hardy are likely to join one of three types of gangs in order to achieve what they consider success. Juan, for example, lives on the fringe of society and is constantly looking for ways to get high; he has consumed alcohol, smoked pot and enjoys what some would consider unusual sexual experiences. He has been involved in a few fights, but is not very good at fighting. Since Juan spends a lot of time high, it is difficult to know whether his failed attempts at fighting were due to fear, clumsiness or sheer weakness. What type of gang is Juan likely to join?

Answer: criminal gang

Explanation:

What is differential opportunity theory ?

This theory states that if people are faced with low socioeconomic status from their upbringing and have less available opportunities to succeed they will grasp and use whatever is available to achieve their desired success even it means going all illegally .

They are three subcultures under this theory which are crime, conflict and retreatist.

These subcultures are dependent on the environment.

Crime: In an environment where there are already available gang members or groups a person is likely to view that as an alternative towards achieving their desired success. A person or a teen will join these gang members and improve themselves within these groups based on available positions.

Conflict: is where teens fight to dominate and can be only recognised or accepted within these groups based on how they win these conflicts to obtain dominance they have to fight for their positions otherwise they can't be considered. Juan has failed in this due to the fact that he can't win the fights.

Retreatist in this subculture a person has to be considered if they can successfully use drugs. Juan has tried all drugs but had failed on this part also hence we can conclude that he will eventually join the crime subculture.

Economists estimated that the price elasticity of beer is -0.30 and the income elasticity of beer is 0.09. This means that:
victus00 [196]

Answer:

C: an increase in the price of beer will lead to an increase in revenue for beer sellers and beer is a normal good.

Explanation:

Because the price elasticity of beer is negative -0.3, this implies that an increase in the price of beer by $1 would lead to a decrease in the demand of beer by 0.3 units and such increase will lead to an increase in revenue of beer seller. However, the income elasticity of beer is 0.09, which implies that the consumption of beer increases with an increase in income, which makes beer a normal good.

What are TWO advantages of the AOC that helped America?
nordsb [41]

Answer:

1. They protected and strengthened the United States.

During the 1700s, the British government had imposed strict regulations on those who lived in the American colonies and had become tyrannical in its rule. This urged the early Americans to long for independence, which was one of the reasons why they came up with the Articles of Confederation. Through these, they showed Great Britain and the entire world that the young nation was quite capable of taking care of itself. It also sent a message that America was ready to form trade relations with other countries.

2. They gave freedom to U.S. citizens.

Under the British rule, Americans couldn’t easily travel or trade with each other. The Articles of Confederation changed this rule, allowing Americans to go wherever they pleased to find employment opportunities and to trade goods and services with each other.

When a nonvolatile solute is added to a volatile solvent, the solution vapor pressure __________, the boiling point __________,
UNO [17]

Answer: the filled in options are(from up to down): decreases; increases; decreases and increases

Explanation:

Ok, let us first full in the gap from the question;

''When a nonvolatile solute is added to a volatile solvent, the solution vapor pressure DECREASES, the boiling point INCREASES, the freezing point DECREASES, and the osmotic pressure across a semipermeable membrane INCREASES.

First, volatility is the tendency of a substance to vaporize.

WHAT IS A NON VOLATILE SOLUTE/SUBSTANCE ?:

A non volatile solute will not produce vapour at the boiling point of a particular solution. It is a solute that has low vapour pressure. This property, that is, a low vapour pressure will cause an increase in the boiling point. An example is glucose.

Non volatile solute, apart from increament in boiling point called boiling point elevation, it also decreases freezing point called freezing point depression.

Also, colligative properties such as osmotic pressure increases.
