5m + 4 = 7m + 6 solve for m

Mathematics

Answer: m=-1

Step-by-step explanation:

Whenever a question says "<u>solve</u>" it means that you have to find the constant (m in this case).

You do this by rearranging the equation so that in one side is the constant and the other side the numbers.

5m+4=7m+6 becomes: 5m-7m=6-4

Then: -2m=2

        :  m=-2/2

        :  m=-1

A 14.5-gallon gasoline tank is 3434 full. How many gallons will it take to fill the tank? Write your answer as a mixed number.
max2010maxim [7]
This is a multiplication of fractions.  If the tank is 3/4 full, and the tank holds 14.5 gal, then we need to multiply 14.5 * 3/4 First, convert 14.5 to 14 1/2 = 29/2 as an improper fraction Now, we have 29/2 * 3/4 = 87/8 = 10 7/8 gal That's how much gas is in the tank now. However, we want to know how much is needed to fill the tank. That can be determined by subtracting 10 7/8 from the amount that the tank can hold when full, which is 14.5 or 14 1/2. 14 1/2 - 10 7/8 can be re-written using improper fractions 29/2 - 87/8       We need a common denominator, which is 8 116/8 - 87/8 = 29/8 = 3 5/8 gal That's how much is needed to fill the tank

A teacher found that the mean number of pets, the students in her 5th grade class own, is 3 with a margin of error of 2.5. Const
Phoenix [80]
The margin of error is defined as
E=z^{*} \frac{\sigma}{ \sqrt{n} }
where
σ = population standard deviation
n = sample size
z* =  aconstant that depends on the confidence level.
        At the 95% confidence level, z* = 1.96.

The confidence interval is calculated as
(μ - E, μ + E)

Given:
μ = 3, the mean number of pets,
E = 2.5, margin of error at the 95% confidence level.
Therefore the 95% confidence interval is
(3 - 2.5, 3 +2.5) = (0.5, 5.5)
Because we can only count whole numbers of pets, the confidence interval is (0, 5).

Answer:
At the 95% confidence level, the 5th graders own between 0  and 5 pets.

Miles is helping his mom paint their family's deck. His mom bought 2 gallons of primer for $79.90 and 4 gallons of paint for $17
hichkok12 [17]

Answer: $3.00

Step-by-step explanation:

Since Miles mom bought 2 gallons of primer for $79.90, th cost of one gallon of paint will be:

= $79.90/2

= $39.95 per gallon

She also bought 4 gallons of paint for $171.80. The cost of 1 gallon of paint will be:

= $171.80/4

= $42.95

We then find the difference to know how much more does paint cost per gallon than primer. This will be:

= $42.95 - $39.95

= $3.00
