Nomadic peoples of the steppes including the Uighurs, the Jurchens (Manchu), the Kazakhs, the Mongols, and the Xiongnu in the north and west of China borders on desert and range-lands. They were the nomadic invaders who controlled and contributed to the collapse of the Han Chinese between 206 BCE and 221 CE in China. The nomadic people controlled the extremely valuable Silk Road trade routes making them unfit to travel which were vital to the success of Chinese governments resulting in an adverse effect to the economy. During the prosperous times, the settled agricultural people of China paid tribute to the troublesome nomads or hired them to provide security from the other tribes while the Emperors offered Chinese princesses as brides to the "Barbarian" rulers to preserve peace.

What role did Phillip III have with the decline of the Spanish Empire?
solong [7]

Unlike his illustrious and competent father, Philip II, king Phillip III of Spain delegated his royal authority in a valido (Spanish: trusted or favorite friend), the Duke of Lerma, which caused a great deal of political conflict among the Spanish nobles. During his rule, an ever increasing of people ceased to work: they had properties in Spain or America (as some kind of investment) and made a living from the revenues of these lands. Also, the expulsion of the Moors (people of Arab descent) was ordered, which reduced the number of people economically, artistically and scientifically active in Spain. Also, after a series of successful military campaigns carried out by his father and grandfather (Charles V), the Spanish armies suffered many defeats. By contemporary standards, the truces that Philip III's Spain made with the Netherlands, England and France were a sign of failure, for European people at the time expected their governments to wage wars for prestige and profit.

1. What level of government do you think should be in charge of security from foreign enemies? Write a paragraph explaining why
TEA [102]

Answer:

1. What level of government do you think should be in charge of security from foreign enemies?

Federal.

The Federal government should be in charge because defense from foreign threats needs to be coordinated on a national level to be effective. If each state, or worse, city, is allowed to implement its own defense strategy, the strategy as a whole would probably be extremely uncoordinated and ineffective.

2. What level of government should you depend on for sanitation in your neighborhood?

Local

There are thousands of neighborhoods in the United States and it would be extremely difficult for officials at the federal level to implement an effective cleaning policy for each one of them. Besides, local politicians know their neighborhoods better.

3. Are there any jobs that you think should be switched among federal, state, and local governments? Why?

Perhaps the Housing department should be abolished at the federal level, and be split among several state or local offices. Housing needs are likely to be better known by local politicians than by federal politicians, and the building approving process could be streamlined this way too.
