The British government subsequently passed more harsh laws restricting rights and freedoms against the residents of Massachusetts in retaliation. There were actions in support of the colonists' actions in Massachusetts from the other colonies. Merchants in other colonies shut down their establishments and sent other resources in support. It is considered one of the events leading up to the American Revolution as there was increasing dissatisfaction with the British colonial administration.
