Answer:

A wind turbine harnesses the energy generated from moving air patterns, which activate large blades that turn a turbine to create electricity?

Explanation:

Wind turbines work on a simple principle: instead of using electricity to make wind—like a fan—wind turbines use wind to make electricity. Wind turns the propeller-like blades of a turbine around a rotor, which spins a generator, which creates electricity.

Wind is a form of solar energy caused by a combination of three concurrent events:

1.The sun unevenly heating the atmosphere

2.Irregularities of the earth's surface

3.The rotation of the earth.

Wind flow patterns and speeds vary greatly across the United States and are modified by bodies of water, vegetation, and differences in terrain. Humans use this wind flow, or motion energy, for many purposes: sailing, flying a kite, and even generating electricity.

The terms "wind energy" and "wind power" both describe the process by which the wind is used to generate mechanical power or electricity. This mechanical power can be used for specific tasks (such as grinding grain or pumping water) or a generator can convert this mechanical power into electricity.

A wind turbine turns wind energy into electricity using the aerodynamic force from the rotor blades, which work like an airplane wing or helicopter rotor blade. When wind flows across the blade, the air pressure on one side of the blade decreases. The difference in air pressure across the two sides of the blade creates both lift and drag. The force of the lift is stronger than the drag and this causes the rotor to spin. The rotor connects to the generator, either directly (if it’s a direct drive turbine) or through a shaft and a series of gears (a gearbox) that speed up the rotation and allow for a physically smaller generator. This translation of aerodynamic force to rotation of a generator creates electricity.

1)A wheel is used to turn a valve stem on a water valve. If the wheel radius is 1 foot and the stem, (axle), radius is .5 inches
Novay_Z [31]

Answer:

1.) 2.4

2.) 112 lbs

3.) 7.85 inches

4.) 6 lbs

5.) 2 lbs

6.) 67%

Explanation:

Given that

Radius of the wheel R = 1 foot

1 foot = 12 inches.

Radius of the axle r = 5 inches

1.) The mechanical advantage MA is :

MA = R/r = 12/5 = 2.4

2.) How much resistance force can ideally be overcome when an effort of 80 lbs is applied to the wheel of the water valve in problem 1?

MA = Load / effort

Where effort = 80 lbs

Substitute MA and effort into the formula

2.4 = Load / 80

Cross multiply

Load = 2.4 × 80 = 192 lbs

The resistance force to be overcome will be

Force = load - effort

Resistance force = 192 - 80 = 112 lbs

3) What is the linear distance traveled when a 2.5' diameter wheel makes one revolution

One revolution = 2π

Radius = 2.5 /2 = 1.25 inches

Linear distance S = angular distance Ø × radius r

S = Ør

S = 2π × 1.25

S = 7.85 inches

4. ) given that

Wheel radius R = 4

Axle radius r = 1

MA = 4/1 = 4

MA = Load / effort

4 = 24/ effort

Effort = 24/4 = 6 lbs

5.) 6 - 4 = 2lb

6.) Efficiency = MA / VR × 100

Efficiency = 4 / 6 × 100

Efficiency = 67%

A room has a width of 14.1 feet, a length of 15.5 feet, and a ceiling height of 12.0 ft. The average flow rate for this room's a
prohojiy [21]

Answer:

Your question lacks the time required hence i will calculate the Average flow rate using a general concept and an assumed time value of 25 seconds

ANSWER : 104.904 ft^3/sec

Explanation:

General concept : Average flow rate is the volume of fluid per unit time through an area

Hence the average flow rate of the air conditioning unit of this room

Volume of the room / time taken for the air to cycle the room = v / t

assuming the time taken = 25 seconds

volume of room = width * length * height

                          = 14.1 * 15.5 * 12 = 2622.6 ft^3

Average flow rate = V/ t

                              = 2622.6 / 25  = 104.904 ft^3/sec

Vivian's Violins has sales of $326,000, contribution margin of $184,000 and fixed costs total $85,000. Vivian's Violins net oper
frosja888 [35]

Based on the calculations, Vivian's Violins net operating income is equal to: D. $99,000.

How to calculate net operating income?

Mathematically, the net operating income of an individual or business firm can be calculated by using this formula:

Net operating income = Contribution margin - Total fixed costs

Given the following data:

  • Sales = $326,000
  • Contribution margin = $184,000
  • Fixed costs total $85,000

Substituting the given parameters into the formula, we have;

Net operating income = $184,000 - $85,000

Net operating income = $99,000.
