A large cheese pizza at Poppy's Pizzeria costs $12.80 plus $1.25 for each topping. The cost of a large
almond37 [142]

Answer:

Part a) 2 toppings

Part b) \$15.30

Step-by-step explanation:

Part a) How many toppings need to be added to  a large cheese pizza from Poppy's Pizzeria and Geo's Pizza in order for the pizzas to cost the same?

Let

x -----> the number of topping

y ----> the total cost of a large cheese pizza

we know that

<em>Poppy's Pizzeria</em>

y=1.25x+12.80 ----> equation A

<em>Geo's Pizza</em>

y=0.65x+14.00 ----> equation B

Equate equation A and equation B

1.25x+12.80=0.65x+14.00

Solve for x

1.25x-0.65x=14.00-12.80

0.60x=1.2

x=2\ toppings

Part b) What  would that cost be?

we know that

For x=2 toppings the cost is the same in both pizzerias

so

substitute the value of x in equation A or equation B

<em>Poppy's Pizzeria</em>

y=1.25(2)+12.80

y=\$15.30

Verify the cost in the other pizzeria (must be the same)

<em>Geo's Pizza</em>

y=0.65(2)+14.00

y=\$15.30 ----> is ok
