What effect did German and Irish immigration have on manufacturing in the United States
Gwar [14]

The right answer is B. German and Irish immigration gave effect on manufacturing in the United States by increased competition of jobs.

EXPLANATION

German and Irish immigration happened in the middle half of the nineteenth century. This wave of immigration happened because of the unsettlement in their own countries. They experienced job shortages, civil unrest, rising taxes. and a lot of struggles back at home. America was perceived as a land of economic opportunity. They emigrated to America with hope for freedom in politics and religious rights. Half of the population of Ireland and about the same number of people of Germans emigrated to the United States.

Most of the immigrants, around 70% of them, entered through New York City. This is known as the “Golden Door”. Meanwhile, immigrants in the late 1800s started entering in New York from the Castle Garden depot. Finally, in late 1892, a new immigration processing center was opened by the federal government on Ellis Island in New York harbor.

After moving to the United States, immigrants started to look for work. Since there was suddenly a flood of people came to the United States, there was a competition of jobs. The jobs provided were not enough, and the employees were paid less. The men were paid less than other workers, and the women were paid less than the men.

Immigration also affected American society and culture. Most of the country was built by the labor of the immigrants. Immigration also gave America diversity and unity at the same time.
