Answer:
This can depend on why you do it, but generally for everyone a distraction is the best bet.
Explanation:
Find something you love to do. Draw, sing, write, gaming, gardening, trivia, ANYTHING! When you feel down, do that thing. Get your mind off of things. This sounds a bit cliche, but go outside and breathe for a bit. Practiving breating exercises help a lot. If you need the sensation, try ice. Numb where you cut/burn/hurt yourself. If you want a visual put red food dye on the ice to represent blood. Draw the cuts on yourself if you cut and need a visual, rather than doing them. Another distraction that works for me is bringing something special with me to remind me im loved. Wether it be an object or a smiley-face I drew on my hand, it might help. My friend draws hearts on themself to show them. Try figit toys to play with instead of doing something. Get your mind off of things! Dunk your head in some water to have a sensation, put something cold on the back of your neck, touch something soft and textured, smell something sweet or strong, paint your emotions, do something nice for somebody (this one helps me a ton), and just try to have fun. Make friends who you know will help you, cut toxisity out of your life, and just go have a good time.
