A car completes a journey at an average speed of 40km/h.At what speed must it travel on the return journey if the average speed
nalin [4]
The distance, s = 40t₁ where t₁ is the time to complete the outward journey.
The same distance = vt₂ where t₂ is the time to complete the return journey at speed v.
For the whole journey, 2s=60(t₁+t₂). Therefore s=30(t₁+t₂)=40t₁=vt₂.
30t₁+30t₂=40t₁, 10t₁=30t₂, t₁=3t₂, so s=120t₂=vt₂ and v=120kph.

Aliun [14]

Answer:

If you add the money that Chris has used, and subtract it from his total, you will get the amount that Chris has left in change.

0.79 + 1.69 + 1.00 = 3.48

4.00 - 3.48 = 0.52

Chris has 52 cents left in change.

I hope this helps!

You need to pump water out of a flooded basement, using two 50 - gallon-per minute (gpm) pumps. The basement has the dimensions
tia_tia [17]

"The two pumps working together would pump out water at a rate of 100 gallons per minute. To determine the time it takes to completely pump out the water from the basement, we need to determine the volume of the water in the basement. The dimensions of the basement is 40 feet by 50 feet (given elsewhere) while the depth of the water is said to be 16 inches. From these dimensions, we can calculate for the volume as follows:"

V = length x width x depth

length = 50 feet

width = 40 feet

depth = 16 inches ( 1 foot / 12 inches ) = 1.33 feet

V = 50 x 40 x 1.33 = 2666.67 ft^3 = 19948.05 gal

Time = V / rate

Time = 19948.05 gal / 100 gal / min

Time = 199.48 min
