The Pied Piper of Hamelin is a story. It is a story written by the Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm in 1812. The story is known to be a fairytale and was originally titled 'The Children Of Hameln'. The story tells of a titular character from the town of Hamelin who was hired by the town to lure rats away. When the indigenes of Hamelin to pay the legend as they promised, he used his magical power on their children in order to retaliate.  The story had different versions of what happened to the children when they were led away by the piper.

Explanation:

In "The Pied Piper of Hamelin", there are many theories about the  Pied Piper. He is seen as a symbol of death by some, since led the children away and they never came back. While some saw him as a symbol of hope to the Hamelin people, since he came to drive the rats thereby saving the people from the epidemic. One of the earliest record of the story is seen depicted in a stained glass window which was created for the church of Hamelin.  Even though in 1660, the church was destroyed, yet several written accounts of the fairytale have survived.
