What happens if you fast in Ramadan even though you are on your period. Also, can you be forgiven for doing it?

This is one of the issues that is not publicly discussed by Muslim women, but they accept that it is a problem for them.

In strict theory, everybody has to fasten during Ramadan. However, among women, they take care of each other and know that sometimes it is necessary to drink water or take some kind of food in order to avoid a health problem during women's period.

The other issue regarding this is that women feel ashamed to tell men that they have their period. Although it could sound incredible for a western mind, it is a real issue for Muslim women.

So if women having their period need to drink or eat, yes, they can be forgiven.

Muslim law is so strict and requires Muslim people to abstain from liquids and food from early in the morning to the evening. The exceptions are if you have a mental illness, are pregnant, are elderly, or if you have a serious disease.
