a) Shyam must have obtained a saturated solution of the sugar. A saturated solution is one that already contains the maximum amount of solute it can dissolve at a given temperature.
Shyam can get the sugar to dissolve in the water by
1. <u>continuously stirring the solution</u> in order to increase the entropy of the system. The more the entropy of a system, the faster the rate of reaction.
2. <u>raising the temperature of the water</u> through heating. The heat will increase the entropy of the system and cause more sugar to dissolve.
