Realist authors tend to write about true and actual things, regardless of whether the things are "good" or "bad" in nature. For example, a realist author would write about current problems with the world instead of fictional tales involving magic.
Realist authors of today would mostly likely write about the Coronavirus pandemic, the recent impeachment of the 45th US President, and even the snow and power outages in Texas. Most, if not all, current events on the news are also acceptable issues for realist authors!
