It is important because not everyone in the world can understand Latin language. If literature was only written in Latin, and no one really spoke that language, literature would be something many avoided due to a lack of understanding. Having something in the everyday language of a place allows for more places to have a better understanding of something that they wouldn't have understood if the language wasn't one that a person had in their toolbox.
