1) Tariff of 1828- Tariff of Abominations- This was the name given to the tariff by Southerners, especially from South Carolina. These Southerners hated the tariff because it decreased foreign trade. This hurt Southerners because many of them traded cotton for manufactured goods made in England.

2) Harriet Tubman- Underground Railroad- Harriet Tubman was a former woman slave who helped hundreds of former slaves escape to freedom in the North.

3) Published the Liberator- William Lloyd Garrison- The Liberator was a famous newspaper focused on getting rid of the institution. It would quickly become one of the most popular pieces of literature used by the abolitionist movement.

4) Abolitionist who led the raid on Harper's Ferry- John Brown- John Brown felt that the institution of slavery was illegal and that it would only be removed from American society through bloodshed.
