Champollion's career was at times dismissed by the scientific community whereas Fourier's was validated to the point he accompanied Napoleon Bonaparte on his Egyptian expedition which took place in 1798.

He was on a role of Scientific Adviser and was later appointed secretary of the Institut d'Égypte in France.

<em>Champollion </em><em>lived in a period of political instability in France which continuously disrupted his research. He was considered suspect by the subsequent Royalist regime because of his Napoleonic allegiances. His own actions, sometimes reckless and harsh, did not help his case. </em>

<em>Fourier </em><em>is credited and validated with the invention of the Fourier series which bear his name to this day.</em>
