The reason why religious division have a big impact on politics is that if religion were to be divided, it could cause massive tension as to which one should be more dominant, and they might be so against each other that they wanted to break free to become independent countries. It is a massive problem, and it could even go into a religious war to become independent from one state or another. That is my take on it, I don't know if it is too correct or not.
