Answer:

Azide and Carbon monoxide block electron transport and proton pumping via inhibition of Complex IV.

Rotenone blocks electron transport and proton pumping via inhibition of Complex I.

Atractyloside blocks electron transport and ATP synthesis by inhibiting the exchange of ATP and ADP across the inner mitochondrial membrane.

Explanation:

The mitochondrial electron transport chain is composed of different complexes integrated into the inner mitochondrial membrane, which function to generate an electrochemical proton (H+ ions) gradient that is then used to drive the synthesis of ATP, the energy coin of the cell. The mitochondrial complex I catalyzes the electron transfer from nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) to ubiquinone and then transports H+ ions across the inner mitochondrial membrane. Moreover, the mitochondrial complex IV, also known as Cytochrome c oxidase, receives electrons via the cytochrome pathway in order to complete the reduction of oxygen (O2) into two molecules of water (H2O). Azide is a selective inhibitor of the complex IV which acts as an uncompetitive inhibitor with regards to O2, while carbon monoxide (CO) binds to the cytochrome c oxidase enzyme, thereby suppressing its activity and thus disturbing ATP synthesis. Rotenone is a potent inhibitor of the mitochondrial complex I that inhibits electron transfer from the iron-sulfur centers in the complex I to ubiquinone, thereby blocking ATP synthesis. Finally, atractyloside is a competitive inhibitor that inhibits the transport of ADP across the mitochondrial inner membrane by blocking the ADP/ATP translocator, thereby preventing ADP from entering mitochondria.

Aphids are a type of insect. They reproduce asexually in the spring and summer. They reproduce sexually in the fall. How might t
arlik [135]

Answer:

The ability of aphids to reproduce both sexually as well as asexually increases its chances for survival in an ecosystem. By the method of asexual reproduction, the aphids are able to multiply in numerous amounts due to which their population increases. Through sexual reproduction, genetic diversity will arise in the aphids population which will make it more stable to survive in an ecosystem. Hence, the aphids benefit from both the methods of reproduction.

What is needed for dna to be copy
lyudmila [28]

Answer:

DNA needs RNA to be copied.

Explanation:

The transcription process starts by DNA "Unziping" itself and the RNA polymerase matches up to its allele. This then copies the DNA and it is sent out to a ribosome for the translation process.

Which of the following is not true of the immune system and homeostasis?
Kryger [21]

The statement that is not true regarding the immune system and homeostasis: 'The immune system is an independent system which does not interact with other organ systems'.

The immune system includes organ systems as well as processes of the body that enables an individual to resist and combat infections and toxins produced by various pathogens. The immune system encompasses organs such as the thymus gland, bone marrow as well as lymph nodes.

The white blood cells or lymphocytes are responsible for fighting infections in the body and lymph or lymphatic fluid carries these cells in the body from one place to another. Lymph nodes act as a filter for the lymphatic fluid.
