Great Britain colonized areas of North America. They imposed a system of mercantilism, this gave them a monopoly on raw materials from the colonies which they would later use to create products and sell them back to colonists. The French and Indian War put Great Britain in debt, so parliament decided to tax the colonists to pay for the war. Great Britain continued to exert their control over the colonists which created tension between them.
