Explanation: The Mandate of Heaven did not require a ruler to be of noble birth, and had no time limitations. Instead, rulers were expected to be good and just in order to keep the Mandate. The Zhou claimed that their rule was justified by the Mandate of Heaven. In other words, the Zhou believed that the Shang kings had become immoral with their excessive drinking, luxuriant living, and cruelty, and so had lost their mandate.

Why Did We Create Public Schools?
charle [14.2K]

Answer:

The Puritans were the first in this country to point out the need for some kind of public education. They established schools to teach not just the essentials-reading, writing and math- but also to reinforce their core values. ... They began calling for free, compulsory school for every child in the nation.

The idea began to spread that childhood should be a time for learning, and schools for children were developed as places of learning. ... In America, in the mid 17th century, Massachusetts became the first colony to mandate schooling, the clearly stated purpose of which was to turn children into good Puritans.

29. how did the us tariff policies contribute to the civil war?
olga_2 [115]
The US government had imposed tariff policies that set a higher price on imported (foreign) manufactured goods. Because the South was an agricultural economy, it either had to ship down form the North or import from other countries most of the finished goods it consumed. Either option increased the cost of goods for Southerners over the prices paid by Northerners. Because the North was a largely industrial economy, and because raw materials imported for manufacturing were not subject to tariffs, the North faced no such burden. Additionally, because there was no income tax at this time, federal gov't revenue depended largely on tariff revenue -- which meant it was paid disproportionately by the South. This revenue was spent on railroads in the North and in other ways that unfairly benefitted the North while largely ignoring infrastructure and development in the South. South Carolina threatened secession as far back as 1828 over the unfair burden of the protective tariffs.
