In 1824, as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Henry Clay representing Kentucky proposed the American System whose main goal was to promote the industry through improving transportation.
This was evident through his strategy to expand a system of internal developments, such as roads and canals. This is expected to result in the country getting linked together and thereby make money through tariff and land sales revenue
