<h2><u>Q</u><u>u</u><u>e</u><u>s</u><u>t</u><u>i</u><u>o</u><u>n</u><u>:</u><u>-</u></h2>

Find the coordinates of the point which divides the join of (-1,7) and (4,-3) in the ratio 2:3 ?

<h2><u>Solution</u>:-</h2>

Let the given points be A(-1,7) and B(4,-3)

Now,

Let the point be P(x, y) which divides AB in the ratio 2:3

Here,

<h3>{ \bf  x \: = \frac{m_1 x_2 \: + \: m_1 x_1}{m_1 \: + \: m_2}}</h3>

Where,

m_1 = 2 , m_2 = 3

x_1 = -1 , x_2 = 4

\therefore Putting values we get,

x = \frac{2 \: × \: 4 \: + \: 3 \: × \: -1}{2 \: + \: 3}

x = \frac{8 \: - \: 3}{5}

x = \frac{5}{5}

x = 1

Now,

Finding y

<h3>{ \bf  y \: = \frac{m_1 y_2 \: + \: m_2 y_1}{m_1 \: + \: m_2}}</h3>

Where,

m_1 = 2 , m_2 = 3

x_1 = 7 , x_2 = -3

\therefore Putting values we get,

y = \frac{2 \: × \: -3 \: + \: 3 \: × \: 7}{2 \: + \: 3}

y = \frac{-6 \: + \: 21}{5}

y = \frac{15}{5}

y = 3

Hence x = 1, y = 3

So, the required point is P(x, y)

= P(1, 3)

<h3>The coordinates of the point is P(1, 3). [Answer]</h3>

xxTIMURxx [149]

Let p be the prize of a pen and m the prize of a mechanical pencils. If you buy six pens and one mechanical pencil, you spend 6p+m. We know that this equals 9, because you get 1$ change from a 10$ bill.

Similarly, if you buy four pens and two mechanical pencils, you spend 4p+2m, which is 8$, because now you get a $2 change. Put these equation together in a system:

\begin{cases} 6p+m=9\\4p+2m=8\end{cases}

Now, if you multiply the first equation by 2, the system becomes

\begin{cases} 12p+2m=18\\4p+2m=8\end{cases}

Subtract the second equation from the first:

12p+2m - (4p+2m) = 18-8 \iff 8p = 10 \iff p = \dfrac{10}{8} = 1.25

Plug this value into the first equation to get

6p+m=9 \iff 6\cdot 1.25 +m = 9 \iff 7.5 +m=9 \iff m = 9-7.5 = 1.5

Subtraction

(left to right)

4²-(3.1+6.4)+4.5

According to PEMDAS, we will do what is inside the parenthesis.

3.1+6.4 = 9.5

<em>4²-9.5+4.5</em>

Then we do figure out the exponent.

4² =  (4)(4) = 16

<em>16-9.5+4.5</em>

Then we do subtraction then addition because PEMDAS also tells us we should do adding and subtracting from left to right. In this expression, subtracting is on the left side so we should do that first.

16-9.5 = 6.5

<em>6.5 + 4.5 = 11</em>

11 is your answer :)
