Anatomical terminology. Digestion is the breakdown of large insoluble food molecules into small water-soluble food molecules so that they can be absorbed into the watery blood plasma. In certain organisms, these smaller substances are absorbed through the small intestine into the blood stream.

Which statement decribes enzemye
Amanda [17]

An Enzyme is a molecule that acts as a metabolic catalyzer to speed up reactions throughout the body.

<em>"Although I could not locate the statements online to provide an exact answer, allow me to provide a general overview of the description and functions of an enzyme</em>."

As stated, an Enzyme is a metabolic catalyzer. What this means is that they are used to greatly speed up metabolic reactions in an organism. Enzymes are an essential part of any organism. They provide us with the ability to digest certain elements, absorb nutrients, undergo liver functions, and much more. Each enzyme has a specific substrate to which they bond and they are essential to all functions in the human body.

Some factors that may affect enzymes are:

  • pH levels
  • Temperature
  • Salt concentrations
  • Water concentrations

and so on.

Enzymes have a set range of conditions in which they will function optimally. Each enzyme can differ in the conditions it prefers for optimal functionality, however, as a general rule, we can say that under extreme conditions such as very low pH levels or salt concentrations surpassing 2.5%, enzymes will denaturalize, losing their basic structure and the ability to catalyze reactions.
