Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the age of of Mrs brook be x

Age of her son be y

If Mrs.Brooks lacks 7 years from being five times as old as her son, this means;

x = 5y - 7 ..... 1

six years from now;

Mrs brooks age = x + 6

sons age = y + 6

If Six years from now she will lack 3 years from being three times as old as her son, this means;

x+ 6 = 3(y+6) - 3

x+6 = 3y + 18 - 3

x+6 = 3y + 15 .... 2

substitute 1 into 2;

(5y - 7)+6 = 3y + 15

5y - 1 = 3y + 15

5y-3y = 15 + 1

2y = 16

y = 8

substitute y = 8 into equation 1;

x = 5y - 7

x = 5(8)-7

x = 40-7

x = 33

Hence the mrs brook is 33 years old

her son is 8 years old

liraira [26]

Answer:

see below

Step-by-step explanation:  5 20 21 02

There are 5 areas to calculate

Top  = LW          =  (20)(17)

Bottom  = LW    =  (20)(15)

Back  = LW        =  (20)(8)

2 Triangular Ends  = One square    = LW     =  (8)(15)

Total Surface Area = (20)(17) +  (20)(15) + (20)(8) +  (8)(15)

                  = (20)(17 + 15 + 8) +  (8)(15)

                  = (20)(40) + (8)(15)

                  =  800  +  120

                  =   920 ft²

64 teams participate in a softball tournament in which half the teams are eliminated after each round of play.
notka56 [123]

Answer:

After 6 rounds one team will win.

Step-by-step explanation:

This is an example of geometric progression,

Let p(n) represents the number of participants remaining after n rounds of play.

First term = 64

\texttt{Common ratio = }\frac{1}{2}

We have

               p(n)=a\times r^{n}\\\\p(n)=64\times \left (\frac{1}{2} \right )^{n}=2^{6}\times \left (\frac{1}{2} \right )^{n}\\\\p(n)=2^{6-n}

Number of teams remaining after n rounds of play, p(n) = 2⁶⁻ⁿ

Here we need to find for what n p(n)=1

           2^{6-n}=1\\\\2^{6-n}=2^0\\\\6-n=0\\\\n=6

After 6 rounds one team will win.
