Assuming someone born today lives to the age of 100, how much wider will the atlantic ocean become during his or her lifetime?
Lady_Fox [76]

The Atlantic ocean is widening at an estimated rate of 4cm a year.

So, if the ocean is widening 4 cm a year, then in 100 years it will be 4x100 = 400 cm wider.

In activities far below the crust, the tectonic plates are constantly moving, and with the exception of earthquakes, these movements are not actually felt. However, scientists have observed that the Atlantic Ocean is slowly expanding, moving the continents of North and South America further away from Europe and Africa.
