Um calendário é um sistema de organização de dias. Isso é feito dando nomes a períodos de tempo, normalmente dias, semanas, meses e anos. Uma data é a designação de um único dia específico dentro de tal sistema. Um calendário também é um registro físico (geralmente em papel) de tal sistema. Na origem, o calendário remonta ao cativeiro na Babilônia, quando os judeus adotam o calendário babilônico e seus nomes para os meses. São meses lunares de 30 ou 29 dias. A cada segundo ou terceiro ano, um mês extra de 30 dias é adicionado para manter o calendário em um ritmo aproximado do ano solar.
