They may think that they feel fine after a few days of taking antibiotics and that they no longer have to take them, but in reality they are not free from the disease causing bacteria. The bacteria then have a chance to multiply again, this time with resistance to the treatment. Educating patients on conditions like sepsis and their mortality will help with medication adherence to decrease the likelihood of antibiotic abuse
