The <span>navigation acts & mercantilism were aimed to limit the trade within
the empire and had put many restrictions, the reason was that the British did
not want to lose the valuable gold and assets to foreigners, the Sugar Act and
such restrictions forced the colonists away from foreign products and this
caused the colonies to anger. The result was a great dissatisfaction against
British and eventually the Revolutionary war.</span>
For Europe, settlement meant alleviating some of the financial and physical stress caused by overpopulation, as well as opening up new avenues for trade. For North America, it meant the systematic murder and eventual removal of Native Americans, as well as the eventual birth of America, the world's most powerful country.

The sides both expected a speedy triumph yet they weren't right as the war went on for a long time ending the lives of numerous. The main real skirmish of the Civil War was the First Battle if Bull Run. The Confederacy won which stunned Northerners and made them understand that the war could be long and troublesome.
