The "Patriots" were the colonists who fought against British rule and wanted freedom during the Revolutionary War and "Tories" were also colonists but they supported the British cause instead. They are also known as "Loyalists"
Taxes could not be collected, and commerce could not be regulated.
It helped them alot by being able to grow their food. The agriculture made it so they could have a large population, be able to defend themsleves from european countries. Even helped them get healthier and more fit.
