in 1700, the original 13 colonies were the only states in the country including; Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, and Rhode Island.
In the 1800's manifest destiny took over and pushed the united states westward. At the start of the 1800's the lousiana purchase was finished and the united states doubled in size west.
