Answer:

c

Step-by-step explanation:

C. BD= 20

Use similar triangles to write a proportion and then cross multiply to solve.

AE: AC = AD:AB

(ONCE YOU KNOW AB YOU CAN SUBTRACT AD FROM AB TO GET BD =20)

So, 15:40 = 12: AB=32.  now 32-12 = 20 so BD = 20

What are the values of x and y?
tensa zangetsu [6.8K]
Answer: x = 8√7, y = 4√21

Explanation:

1) There are three triangles.

2) The small triangle of the right has a right angle,  and the sides are the height, x and 16.

3) The small triangle of the left, has a righ angle, and the sides are the heigth, y and 12.

4) The big triangle has a right angle, and the sides are the x, y and 28.

5) Set three equations using Pytagora's theorem for the three triangles..

a) y^2 + x^2 = 28^2 = 784

b) h^2 + 12^2 = y^2

c) h^2 + 16^2 = x^2

6)  Subtract b) from c)

16^2 - 12^2 = x^2 - y^2

=> x^2 - y^2 = 112

add x^2 - y^2 = 112 with the equation a)

x^2 - y^2 = 112
x^2 + y^2 = 784
----------------------
2x^2 = 112 + 784

2x^2 = 896

x^2 = 896 / 2 = 448

x = √448

x = 8√7

7) now you can use any a) to find y:

y^2 + x^2  = 784

=> y^2 = 784 - x^2

=> y^2 = 784 - 448

=> y^2 = 336

=> y = 4√21

Answer: x = 8√7, y = 4√21

Bob grows tomatoes in his garden. He picked four tomatoes, and weighed every possible grouping of three tomatoes. The results ar
shepuryov [24]

Answer:

1000.

Step-by-step explanation:

We need 4 weights where 3 of them add up to

900, 1400, 1600 or 1800g.

Not sure of the method for doing this!

Lets assume that the answer is 1000 g.

Then the  3 that make 1800 could be

1000 500 and 300

- then to make 900 we need a 100g tomato giving:

1000 500 300 and 100 grams

So the 1400 will be the 1000, 300 and 100 tomato

and the 1600 will be 1000, 500 and 100.

That seems to fit !!
