Which word best describes Congress' handling of slavery prior to the Dred Scott Decision?
xenn [34]

The correct answer is D) Compromise.

Congress was constantly trying to find ways to "solve" the issue of slavery in American society. It first started with the Missouri Compromise. This established that the institution of slavery would not exist north of the 36'30 for any new states added during the era of westward expansion. However, this would not last forever as the adding of California after the Mexican-American War became a problem. This is because the 36'30 cut the state into two parts and the US did not want a half free half slave state.

This resulted in the creation of the Compromise of 1850. However, this law would not solve the issue of slavery. Rather, it just pushed the problem further down the road.

Isolationists in the senate opposed the treaty of versailles because
viktelen [127]
... because they opposed the United States becoming a member of the League of Nations.

The League of Nations was the signature idea of President Woodrow Wilson, point #14 of his 14 Points, an international peacekeeping association which he recommended for post-war settlements.  The Treaty of Versailles adopted that idea, but back home in the United States, there was not support for involving America in any association that could diminish US sovereignty over its own affairs or involve the US again in wars beyond those pertinent to the United States' own national security.
