Though the  British won the battle, the continental army under General George Washington successfully captured and fortify Dorchester Heights and push the British to flee Boston and the Harbor. Furthermore, the heavy losses caused on the British during the Clash strengthened the determination of Americans and determined that the relatively unskilled colonists could surely struggle on par with the great redcoats of the British Army.

I assume you mean WWI as there were only two. In WWI Americans participated. Many of the able men went to war. While the women, children, and disabled stayed and helped with the war effort. Most of the effort back home was from the women.
