Answer:

BRIAN: I'll get them.

KATIE: I'll get them.

(BRIAN and KATIE take opposite paths to the light switch. CAMMIE moves to the windows.)

CAMMIE: Everyone watch these windows. (The crowd follows her.) It should happen in ten… nine… eight… (BRIAN and KATIE arrive at the light switch, both watching CAMMIE. Their hands touch accidentally as they shut off the light) seven… six… five… (BRIAN and KATIE make eye contact in the dark. Everyone watches the window.) four… three… two… (BRIAN and KATIE lean in to kiss.)

ABBY: (Looks back) Oh my gosh! They're going to kiss!

CAMMIE: Noooo! (There is a rush of simultaneous action: The crowd turns in unison to watch KATIE and BRIAN. CAMMIE grabs SERENA and turns her toward the window as a bright burst of light flashes through. BRIAN and KATIE jump apart and flip on the lights. SERENA's eyes go wide with fear and wonder. CAMMIE turns to the crowd, excitedly.) Did you see what just happened?

ABBY: (Reacting to the fact that there was no kiss.) We saw what almost happened.

ERIKA: Another false alarm.

WALLACE: At this rate, I'm going to get a kiss before Buckethead does. (Everyone heads for their tables, mumbling about the "almost kiss." CAMMIE is exasperated.)

CAMMIE: I'm not talking about the kiss, people! I'm talking about the light!

ERIN: What light?

CAMMIE: The big light! The one I've been waiting for for six years!

AMANDA: (Correcting her) The one for which you've been waiting.

CAMMIE: It came right there through the window. No one saw it? (She notices SERENA who has stood frozen in place since seeing the light.)Serena! (Moves to SERENA. Looks her in the eye, nearly pleading.) You saw it. Tell me you saw it. Please.

SERENA: (Quietly) I saw it.

ROSALIND: You did?

KATIE: Are you sure it wasn't Brian and I turning on the light?

SERENA: Cammie held me and made me watch. I saw it.

ASHLEY: So what does that mean?

SERENA: I guess it means that one of us is the alien.

44. In her essay "Writing Short Stories" Flannery O'Connor says this about characterization:
HACTEHA [7]
This could be answered if you have presented what Semester A is. As the question says,

<span><span>"Consider the quotations above. Then pick a story from Semester A and evaluate how the social context and the characters work together not only to provide a vivid setting, but also to help explain and develop the characters' thoughts, words, and actions."

</span>Probably, the answer that you can get is that, based from the quotations, it talks about the society, as an individual and as a community. You cannot understand personality not unless you are and in that personality.</span>
