G6PD deficiency is an inherited condition in which the body doesn't have enough of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase,

or G6PD, which helps red blood cells (RBCs) function normally. G6PD deficiency is most common in African-American males. Many females are carriers. It is known that Africa and the Mediterranean basin are high-risk areas for the infectious disease malaria. Researchers have found evidence that the parasite that causes malaria does not survive well in G6PD-deficient cells.How can you explain this? Natural selection favors G6PD deficiency as compared to malaria. Genetic drift is responsible for greater occurrence of G6PD deficiency in these regions. Somatic mutations lead to G6PD deficiency in malaria-inflicted regions.

As verbalized, the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase avails red blood cells function felicitously. Ergo, G6PD deficiency can cause hemolytic anemia characterized by having low calibers of red blood cells. The parasite that causes malaria does not survive well in G6PD deficient cells since they appear to have resistance against the disease.

A greenhouse owner determines that the plants in the greenhouse need a higher humidity level. How could the owner address this p
NeTakaya

Answer:

Providing a controlled source of water vapour through which water can be vaporized into the plant envoirment.

Explanation:

Humidity ratio is the ratio of the mass of water in air to the mass of dry air. Humidity is needed in some conditions where the air is very dry. In a very dry air setting, there can be excess moisture loss from the plant surface, increasing the Humidity ratio can counter this effects and reduce excess moisture loss.

Hardy Weinberg Practice Problems To demonstrate your understanding of the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, answer each question caref
andriy [413]

Assuming that the affection is a recessive trait caused by a single diallelic gene, the percentage of the population that possess the heter0zyg0us advantage is 32%.

<h3>Available data</h3>

  • 1000 of African people population
  • 4% of the population is born with sickle cell anemia

100% of the population -------------------- 1000 individuals

4% of the population with anemia------- X = (4 x 1000) / 100 = 40

0.04 is the frequency of individuals with sickle cell anemia.

Assuming that the affection is a recessive trait caused by a single diallelic gene, we can get the allelic frequency as follows.

  • The genotypic frequency is q² =  0.04
  • The allelic frequency is q = √0.04 = 0.2

Having the recessive allelic frequency, we can get the dominant allelic frequency, by clearing the following equation,

p + q = 1

p = 1 - q

p = 1 - 0.2

p = 0.8

So, the allelic frequencies are

p = 0.8

q = 0.2

To get the heter0zyg0us frequency, we just need to replace the values

2pq = 2 x p x q = 2 x 0.2 x 0.8 = 0.32

The frequency of the heter0zyg0us genotype is 0.32 = 32%.

32% of the population possess the heterozygous advantage.

What components of the introns of nuclear genes that encode proteins in higher eukaryotes are conserved and required for the cor
leonid [27]

Answer:

The introns of protein-encoding nuclear genes of higher eukaryotes almost invariably begin (5') with GT and end (3') with AG. In addition, the 3'subterminal A in the “TACTAAC box” is completely conserved; this A is involved in bond formation during intron excision.
