How are “The Clever Old Woman” and “The Clever Magistrate” alike and different? Please help
jonny [76]

Answer:bellowed

Explanation:couldn’t take it any longer and dared to step out among them.

“How dare you!” bellowed the ignorant chief, but the clever old woman ignored him and quickly set to work. First, she soaked rope in salt water and then dried it. When the villagers set the rope on fire, it burned away, but the ash remained in the shape of a rope. Next, she put honey at one end of a log and an ant tied with silk thread at the other end. The ant raced through the log, pulling the thread behind it. Lastly, she opened one side of a drum and sealed a bumblebee inside. As the bee beat against the sides of the drum to escape, the drum played without being tapped on top.

The words: “How dare you!”

When the ignorant chief saw how clever the old woman was, he hung his head in shame for having treated old people so unfairly. By then, darkness had fallen and Lord Higa and his warriors returned, ready to destroy the village. But when they saw that all three impossible tasks had been completed, they were astonished.

“Fair is fair,” said Lord Higa. “Clearly everyone in this village deserves to be treated with respect.”

“Yes, everyone deserves to be treated with respect,” said the clever old woman firmly, as she stared intently at the chief.

So Lord Higa left and never again bothered the village, the ignorant chief changed his ways, and the old people came back down from the mountain. As for the clever old woman, she went on being clever for many, many years.

What is a theme for the short story "duty"?
il63 [147K]

Once a nobleman arranged a grand feast. He got all kinds of dishes prepared. There was, however, one deficiency. The nobleman was fond of fish and he wanted it somehow. A fisherman came to know of it. He caught a fish and brought it to the house of nobleman. His porter, however, would not let him get in. At last he let the fisherman enter when the latter agreed to pay him half of what he got.

The nobleman was pleased to see the fish. He wanted to give some reward to the fisherman. The fisherman said that the price of the fish was one hundred lashes. The nobleman and his guests regarded it as a merry joke. He, therefore, ordered the fisherman to be given lashes but gently. When the fisherman had received fifty lashes, he stopped and said, “I have a partner, sir, please send for him. He will receive the remaining fifty lashes.”

The nobleman was surprised. “Who is this second fool to receive the lashes ?” said he “It is your porter, Sir,” replied the fisherman. The nobleman sent for the porter. He was whipped fifty times very severely. He was dismissed. The nobleman gave a rich reward to the fisherman as a price of his fish. Moral: Be true to your duty.
