Birth control pills prevent pregnancy by preventing ovulation. Ovulation is the release of an egg during the monthly cycle. If ovulation doesn't happen a woman can not pregnant because there is no egg to be fertilized.

Further explanation

Birth control pill contains a combination of progesterone and estrogen hormone to control the ovaries and the uterus. Birth control pill works best when it is taken every single day at the same time of day. A Pill is an effective form of birth control, but even missing one day increases the chance of getting pregnant.

Pregnancy happens when the sperm meets the egg, by preventing the ovulation, there is no egg to be fertilized. The birth control pill prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation, change the cervical mucus so it difficult for the sperm to go through the cervix and find an egg and also changing the lining of the womb so it's unlikely the fertilized egg will be implanted.

There are different methods of birth control including pills, IUD, implant, birth control shot and barrier control like condoms
